ABOUT
Japanese-born and a Royal College of Art graduate, Misa Harada launched her career in 1998 after creating for the British Royal Family.
Misa’s esteemed brand is renewed for its functionality and ornate elegance hybrid. Her main goal is to encourage more people to wear hats on any occasion. Declaring, “A hat is an ultimate tool of self-expression and an item to finish the outfit. My mission is to introduce a taste of couture in hats at an affordable price and encourage more to wear hats,” Misa provides her signature streetwear hats tweaked with her couture essence.
By 2002, the Misa Harada label was stocked internationally and caught the attention of artists such as Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. Other notable names Misa designed include Jennifer Aniston, The Rolling Stones and the TV series ‘Sex in the City’. Her unique stylisation of traditional millinery has been championed by former collaborators Thierry Mugler, Yohji Yamamoto and Bora Aksu.
In 2023, Misa created various headpieces for Beyonce’s Renaissance tour.
Misa’s work has been displayed at the V & A exhibition ‘Stephen Jones – An Anthology of Hats’, which toured worldwide from 2009 to 2011. In 2015, Misa’s retrospective exhibition “Hats Off” was held at the Pola Museum of Art in Tokyo.
Misa Harada has seen regular coverage in British and German Vogue, including a bespoke headpiece for top model Cara Delevingne, and has graced the front cover of Tatler with Cindy Crawford in her signature ‘veiled boater’ style.
As a founding member of the British Hat Guild, Misa constantly promotes heritage and craftsmanship through her hat.
The sustainability of her pieces is considered throughout Misa’s work, which includes many innovative recycled materials. Misa also provides repair and restoration of her pieces via the ‘Hat for Life’ certificate scheme (a certificate is included for every online and flagship store purchase) to ensure the piece's longevity as it accompanies you on your life’s journey.
Misa Harada supports local production and suppliers in the U.K. Therefore, each hat is made by a small team in her atelier in Cardiff. Its collections are sold in over 100 retail outlets across fifteen countries.
